Concrete Canoe Competition
The Concrete Canoe Competition is a student competition hosted by ASCE. The first Concrete Canoe Competition was held in 1988. However, this competition can be traced back to
the 1960s, when only small competitions were made between different ASCE student chapters. This competition allows students to gain hands-on experience with concrete mix designs and gain
project management skills. The competition also involves a race between the
canoes made by the student chapters, which can test the students' racing
techniques and the students' ability to make a hydrodynamic design for the concrete canoe. The rules for this competition change every year, and ASCE also refers to this competition as the
“America’s Cup of Civil Engineering.” (ASCE)Participating Years
